Bai Community:
Their language, Bai, is a Tibeto-Burman tongue, serving as a linguistic thread connecting generations. Embracing Bai folklore and rituals, the community practices a unique blend of Buddhism, Taoism, and indigenous beliefs, forming the spiritual foundation of their lives.
This reflects in their vibrant festivals and ceremonies, where history, language, and religion converge, creating a dynamic that defines the Bai identity in Dali.
Bai Festivals and celebrations:
The Butterfly Festival in April showcases Bai women's intricate embroidery skills, creating a kaleidoscope of colorful butterflies. The Water Splashing Festival, echoing the Dai minority tradition, takes place in April as well, symbolizing the cleansing of the old year with joyful water fights.
During the Third Month Fair, Bai people gather to honor the goddess Guanyin, engaging in rituals, feasts, and horse racing.
